Cinimod Studio Interactive Lighting Architecture and Art

Inspiration: DJ GOD…

For the last page of the current issue of Mondo*arc, Cinimod Studio were invited by the Light Collective to create a visual interpretation of their inspirations and how it informs their work.

“Cinimod believes that human experience is the starting point and this is the inspiration for their expansive and at times strange repertoire of technologies and techniques which they use to deliver visually stunning, immersive and interactive installations.

Cinimod director Dominic Harris is obsessive about lighting, colour, form and interaction and seeks inspiration from the nature, industries and conversations around him.  The DJ GOD project is itself an inspiration in progress and here it is personified as as a conversation spanning several other of their projects.”

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology will be employed to identify visitors in certain key spots during the evenings proceedings. The tags, which use radio signals to seamlessly send their identity to antenna receivers, are more commonly used in industrial settings. The Restaurant and Bar Design Awards 2010 will be the first awards event that combines this technology to create a uniquely ‘connected’ environment that will actively promote positive business social networking.

The event takes place on 22 June 2010.  A full project description will appear on this website shortly after.

Itsu Notting Hill – Sneak Preview

Cinimod Studio’s involvement with Itsu is an on-going rewarding relationship which has already seen half a dozen of Cinimod’s  Butterfly in Flight lighting installations appear across London.  The most recent of these can be found in the new Itsu restaurant in the heart of Notting Hill.   Opening to the public on Tuesday 9th March, this restaurant is a radical design departure from the other locations.

While the ground floor may bear some familiarity to other Itsu restaurants, it is the upstairs “Butterfly Bar” that comes as the unexpected element.     The interior has an eclectic and mesmerising feel to it, and features many truly unique elements.   And of course, towards the front of the store and visible from most of the Notting Hill high street, there is Cinimod’s “Butterfly in Flight”, this time in alluring warm sunset colours.

Cinimod Studio wish the Itsu Notting Hill team the best of luck with this new venture, and are confident that it will become a staple Notting Hill destination.

Flutter at Kinetica Art Fair 2010

Cinimod Studio - Flutter - lowres

Cinimod Studio will be unveiling their newest artwork ‘Flutter’ at the Kinetica Art Fair 2010.  This interactive artwork explores the viewer’s encounter with a flutter of virtual butterflies. Set within a striking architectural framework and making use of cutting edge technologies developed with White Wing Logic engineers, the artwork is a product of our on-going fascination with the motion of a butterfly’s flight and the iridescent reflections and scattering of light by the scales on a butterfly’s wing.   More details and photographs to be posted soon.
