Since 1851, the America's Cup trophy has represented the pinnacle of sporting achievement and is international sport's oldest, most coveted, and indeed one of the most challenging trophies to win.
In the lead up to the 35th America's Cup race, Cinimod Studio acted as lighting production designers and consultants for a new archive of video and photography assets which celebrated the 'Auld Mug' and were to be used across multiple channels in broadcast, promotional material, digital output and title sequences.
From conceiving the initial lighting concept and sourcing the laser effects team, to executing the VFX and compositing, Cinimod's set design captured the intense drama of the race, whilst paying homage to the revered trophy itself. Using various lighting and water effects, the design team incorporated the race's iconic logo, bringing it to life as a striking backdrop which framed and accentuated the cup.
The resultant production design employed cutting edge technology (reflecting that which is used within the racing yachts) which was perfectly juxtaposed against the antique detailing and engraving of the impressive trophy, emphasising its heritage and majesty.
BEHIND THE SCENES
With the 'Auld Mug' only visitng London for a matter of hours during the middle of the night, Cinimod and the film production teams worked into the early hours to produce content which gave the trophy dynamism and injected the classic America's Cup narrative.
