FLIGHT
AN ASCENDING RABBLE OF SHIMMERING BUTTERFLIES HERALDS THE ARRIVAL OF ITSU’S NEW LOCATION AT HEATHROW TERMINAL 5.
LONDON, UK – 2016
Playing on Itsu’s core brand icon – the butterfly – the lighting feature captivates audiences with an impressive presence, creating a visual identity that renders the restaurant instantly recognisable upon entering the terminal.
Cinimod continued their original concept for Itsu by conveying the motion of a butterfly as it travels through space. Implementing bespoke lighting control at each butterfly, light passes through the wings, providing a sense of movement to the static structure.
A dramatic 12 metre angled mast supports a tensioned system of steel cables from which a canopy of 72 dichroic butterflies hang. With wings covered in dichroic film which reflects light onto the ceiling and shimmers down to diners below, a striking colour shift is created, dependent on the location of the viewer.
Thus, the surreal lighting feature provides an adventurous and stunning addition to not only the Itsu restaurant, but Terminal 5 as a whole.
